A New Tub To Soak In

Bathtubs are in every one's home, and a necessity we cant go with out.  So when an older tub begins to have their glaze chip off and the damage is beyond a quick sand down, you may need to think about re-glazing bathtubs at this stage. Its a rather easy process, and cheaper then going out to replace the entire tub. You can either do it yourself if you feel handy enough, or you can call a professional to do the re-glaze for you.First you want to clear out your bathroom, and make sure its well ventilated. Then, remove all trim plumbing that is close to the bathtub. This includes the overflow cap, the spout and the shower-head.

Next, remove all caulking and grout that surround the bathtub. Make sure you leave no caulking or grout around so it does not set into the glaze when you set it. After the tub has been thoroughly cleaned and dry, it will get a wash down in hydrofluoric acid. Thoroughly rinse after this step. Blow all areas to ensure a clean working space. Next, fill in the acid damage with body filler. Be careful as its hard to sand down if you make a mistake.Trim the borders and floor with tape, and lay down painters tarps over everything in the bathroom.

The next thing you want to do is sand down the body filler till you have a smooth finish. This may take a lot of effort, and patience but a mandatory step. Make sure to clean up all the residue in the bath left after the sanding, and then tack cloth the entire bathtub. You will then prime the bath and then take cloth the tub again. Next you apply the glaze to the manufactures instructions. You can begin to remove the painters drops, and most of the tape, except for around the tub. The glaze needs to set and dry overnight.

The next day you can replace the plumbing and re-grout around the edges. Reglazing bathtubs is something anyone can do.reglazing bathtubs may seem like a hard task for you to do along, and if so don't worry about it,t here are professionals that specialize in just that so you can leave the work up to them. Do You Know How to Install a Bathtub?

By Christopher W Smith
Even when you've chosen a "lightweight" fiberglass or acrylic bathtub, installing it is going to be a heavy job. There are two basic types of bathtubs you can install: a traditional framed bathtub or a freestanding bathtub such as a claw foot tub. When deciding which type you'd like to install, one main consideration is the amount of space you have available in your bathroom. If you are replacing a framed tub, you'll most likely need to put another framed tub in its place, because a claw foot tub won't fit into the same space a framed tub did. Measure your space carefully, and then make your decision and buy your tub.
